DURATION 1990 – 1999
Fourth International Albert Einstein Seminar, was held at “Pearl Continental Hotel”, Karachi on 16 March 1990. Many scientists were invited from within the country and abroad but ten distinguished physicists presented their papers at the seminar. This seminar was sponsored jointly by the “Albert Einstein Society”, Department of Physics, University of Karachi, University Grants Commission,

Dr. A. K. Johnsher delivered a lecture at the Department of Physics, University of Karachi, in the year 1991.

Dr. K. A. Shoaib of “Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission”, Islamabad lectured on “Electron Microscopy” at the Department of Physics, during January 6th to 8th 1991.
Dr. Jameel A. Khan of “Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission”, Islamabad lectured on “High Temperature Superconductivity” at the Department of Physics, during January 27-29, 1991.
Dr. M. N. Qazi of “Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission”, Islamabad lectured on “Research Activities of the Commission” at the Department of Physics, on February 20, 1991.
An International Conference was held in May 31st to June 4th 1991 on “Teaching of Physics” at the SUPARCO Auditorium. This conference was organized by APWA Government Girls College, Karachi in collaboration with the Department of Physics, University of Karachi. A various foreign speakers were present in this conference such as Dr. Khalijah Salah from Malaysia, Dr. Nancy law from Hong Kong, Dr. Gulsen Onengut from Turkey, Dr. Joshi from India, Dr., Nachtigal from Germany, Dr. Vivien Talisyon from Philippines, Dr. Shah Alam from UNESCO, Delhi, India and Dr. Fatima K. Mater from Bahrain.
Dr. Rizwan Mahmood of the Department of Physics, Slippery Rock University, Pennsylvania, U.S.A, visited the Department of Physics, University of Karachi during August 1991 under TOKTEN program, and delivered some lectures on “Liquid Crystals”.
An International Workshop on “Solid State Devices” was held at the Department of Physics University of Karachi, Karachi, Pakistan, during 17-20 August, 1991. Prof. Dr. Mushahid Husain, Professor of the Department of Physics, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, participated the workshop. Around hundred scientists from Bangladesh, India, SriLanka, England, USA & Pakistan participated in the workshop. Financial support made the seminar possible by United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization Paris, France, International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. A. Q. Khan Research Laboratories, University of Karachi, Pakistan International Airlines and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
Dr. M. Jamil of “Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission”, Islamabad lectured on “Energy Physics” at the Department of Physics, during December 9-12, 1991.
Dr. Syed Samar Husnain of Daresbury Laboratory, England visited the Department of Physics under TOKTEN scheme during 15th December 1991 to 10th January, 1992 and gave lectures on EXAFS.
Dr. F. Matacota of International Centre of Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy lectured on “High Temperature Superconductivity” at the Department of Physics, during January 15-16, 1992
Professor Demtroder of the University of Kaiserlauteru, Germany lectured on “Laser Spectroscopy” at the Department of Physics, on March 3, 1992.
Dr. Arshad M. Khan, Director Applied Systems Analysis Group of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Islamabad lectured on “Global Energy Systems Development and Environmental Impacts” at the Department of Physics, during July 26-29, 1992.
Dr. Khalid Rashid of PINSTECH, Islamabad lectured on “Atomic Structure Computations” at the Department of Physics, on August 1, 1992.
First symposium on “Trends in Physics” of the Sindh chapter of the Pakistan Physical Society was held in the Department of Physics, University of Karachi, during September 26 – 27, 1992, in collaboration with the Department of Applied Physics and the Sindh Chapter of Pakistan Physical Society. Over eighty scientists from various scientific organizations, universities and colleges of Sindh participated in the symposium.
Dr. Rizwan Mahmood of the Department of Physics, Slippery Rock University, Pennsylvania, U.S.A, visited the Department of Physics, University of Karachi in the year 1994 under TOKTEN program, and delivered a lecture on “Liquid Crystals”.
A seminar was arranged on 7th January, 1998 at the Department of Physics, University of Karachi, Pakistan. Guest speaker was S. N Goderya and the topic was “Scientific Frontiers with the Hubble Space Telescope”.
