B.S. DIGITAL ELECTRONICS [PHYS-675] SYLLABUS

Review of Number system: Decimal, Binary, Octal and Hexadecimal Number systems and their interconversion. Addition subtraction multiplication and division in binary Number system.

Review of Logic and Gates: Basics of Boolean Logic, Logic expressions and operation (AND, OR, NOR, NAND, XOR). DeMorgan’s theorem. Simplifications of Logic expressions using Algebraic method and Karnaugh map method. Logic Gates and their implementation in adder, subtractor, encoder, decoder, mux, demux, parity checker/generator etc, input/output timing diagram etc.

Designing Combinational Logic Circuits: Complete System Designing procedure/steps in combinational logic circuit like Traffic Signal System and other system industrial controllers.

Designing Sequential Circuits: Basic Memory elements like SR, JK, T and D flip flops their Truth Table and their Transitional and excitation requirements and Timing Diagrams, basic Sequential Circuit, designing procedure of a synchronous and Asynchronous Sequential Circuit, counter of different types and modules; Sequence detector, Sequential Circuit used in controller like lift controller. PLD (Programmable Logic Devices) their types, programming of PLDs, PAL/GAL/FPGA using software like Verilog, HDL, ABLE and Cupel etc. Design Combinational Logic Circuit using PLDs and Sequential Circuit using PLD and other memory devices like RAM, ROM, EPROM, EEPROM, Shift Registers their types and applications, Sequencer Instructions.

Analog to Digital and Digital to Analog Conversion: A/D and D/A Converter of different types. Their comparison and uses with respect to speed, accuracy, and errors in Converters, applications of A/D and D/A Converters. ICs and their different Logic families their specifications and comparison, LED and LCD display and their uses.
