ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Whenever, I am interested to get information about Physics Department of any modern university, it is very easy to go through its website and information are there. It has always flashed in my mind, why can’t I help the Department of Physics, University of Karachi (where I studied) to develop and design a website containing all information related to the Department.

During September 2005, I discussed this matter with the chairman of Physics Department, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Ahmed Khan and Prof. Dr. M. Khalid Anis and they encouraged me to go head to develop such informative website.

During October 2005, when I started to collect the data, I found out that it was a difficult task because there was no established record available, anywhere. It was then a challenging task to collect information from personal record of those who were associated with the Department.

Prof. Dr. Iqbal Ahmed Khan encouraged me with full support, provided memorable photographs, information on the basis of his own record and also contributed to refine the text.

A senior Professor of the Department of Physics, Prof. Dr. M. Khalid Anis had also provided important information for different web links with some memorable photographs. It is appreciated that Dr. Anis has also supported and provided me a great helped me to edit the contents of the web pages till end of the completion of the project.

I had contacted and met several times with Prof. Dr. Feroz Ahmad and Prof. Dr. M. Rafi. They both provided very fruitful information and some valuable old photographs.

Prof. Syed Dabir H. Rizvi had provided information about the Electronics, Computational and Solid State Physics Laboratories. Prof. Dr. Ansar Ahmad Qidwai and Dr. Birjees Nafis Ayub provided old magazines of the Department of Physics such as “Souvenir”, “Vision” and “Echo” etc.

Dr. Altaf Husain also provided some valuable information. Dr. Tehsin Rahim and Dr. Zaheeruddin have provided some valuable old photographs of picnics.

Prof. Dr. S.M.A. Tirmizi, Prof. Dr. Sheikh Ansar Husain, Prof. Dr. Riaz Ahmed Hashmi, Prof. Dr. M. Abdul Raoof and Mr. Syed Gul Hasan Taqvi went back to their memorable days with supported photographs. Mr. S.G.H. Taqvi also provided an old list of members of the Karachi University Teachers Housing Society. Prof. Dr. Ashraf Choudhry (Registrar, Bahuddin Zikria University, Multan) also provided historical information.

Prof. Dr. Jamil H. Kazmi, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Geography, University of Karachi provided me the map and some photographs of the University of Karachi.
